Congratulations, IUP men and IHS athletes!

UPDATE: IUP men and IHS athletes honored
A Celebratory Parade took place on Tuesday, April 6th. The Celebratory Parade honored the Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Men’s Basketball team, the Indiana Area Senior High Girl’s Basketball team and two IASH swimmers (scroll down to see photos from the parade and video from the ceremony).

The IUP Men’s Basketball team played in the NCAA Division II National Championship on March 27, 2010 for the first time in school history. IUP (33-3) fell one step short in the championship with a loss to Cal Poly Pomona  65-53, but finished with the finest season in school history at 33-3.

The Indiana Area Senior High Girl’s Basketball had one of the most successful seasons in school history and made its second appearance in a PIAA girl’s basketball championship game. The girls did not leave Bryce Jordan Center the state champions, losing to Archbishop Wood, 49-39, but they were champions in the eyes of their thousand plus fans in the stands.

Rachel Zilinskas and Matt Rochna, IASH swimmers, both earned medals at the PIAA Class AA Swimming and Diving Championships. Freshman phenom Rachel Zilinskas became the first swimmer in Indiana High School history to win a state championship and Matt Rochna set a school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.54 seconds.

The parade, which began at 5th and Philadelphia Street and ended at the Courthouse, featured local dignitaries congratulating these star athletes and their outstanding coaches, as well as the IAHS marching band, the IASH Rowdy Rooters and the IUP Crimson Crazies.
