Nick retired as Executive Director of the Indiana County Assistance Office after 34 years. He has hosted The Polka Beat since 1988 on AM 1160 WCCS and played in various bands, including Coral Aces, Polish Friends (with Mark Bertig), Polka Revolution and Polka Express.

Nick plays the accordion, concertina, sax and piano, and he plays golf whenever possible.

He has been married to his wife Linda for 39 years and has two children, Jennifer Hafer, who worked at AM 1160 while in high school and college, and Nick Jr. Nick has one grandchild, Aden Hafer.
