STEPHEN BALOGH, 54

Stephen James Balogh

Stephen “Parker” James Balogh, 54, of Creekside died suddenly, Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at home. He was the husband of Alice (Steffish) Balogh, whom he married May 25, 1990.

Stephen was born November 16, 1958 in Indiana, the son of Margaret (Zappy) Balogh, of Indiana and the late William Balogh.

Stephen previously worked as a Nursing Assistant at Mountain View Heights Haven in Penn Run. He was a graduate of Purchase Line High School. He enjoyed reading, doing jigsaw puzzles and watching the Steelers and Penguins. He was also a life member of Clymer Vol. Fire Dept.

In addition to his wife, Stephen is survived by his sons John William Balogh and Bradley Daniel Balogh, both of Creekside. His surviving siblings are Margaret Batulis and her husband Jerry, Mary Jane Gromley, Dorothy Wissinger, Dennis Balogh and his wife Dawn as well as his sister-in-law, Diana Balogh, all of Indiana and Paul Balogh and his wife Valerie of Dixonville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and his brothers Michael and William Balogh.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 and again from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, of Indiana. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 24^th at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. The Rev. George Hnakto will officiate. Interment will be in the Sample Run cemetery.

MALACHI PATTERSON, 22-MONTHS

Malachi M. Patterson, 22 months, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at UPMC Children’s Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.

The son of Devon M. Bailey and Jamie L. (Patterson) Campbell, he was born July 1, 2011 in Indiana, PA.

Surviving are his father of Indiana; his mother of Blairsville; two brothers, Zion Patterson and Juan Campbell Jr., both of Blairsville; a stepbrother, Diego Campbell of Blairsville; maternal grandparents, Harry Cochran and Linda Patterson of Homer City; paternal grandparents, Michael Ellerson and Donna Allen of Georgia; maternal great grandmother, Margaret Hodge of Altoona; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Brett M. Dinger officiating.

Interment will be Oakland Cemetery, Indiana, PA.

JAMES McKEE, 81

James Steele McKee, 81 of Pinehurst, NC died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Pinehurst Nursing Center. Born March 12, 1932 in Marion Center, he was a son of the late Bartley McKee and Birdie Craft McKee. Mr. McKee was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

While living in North Carolina, James was a faithful member of the Shiloh Presbyterian Church. He also belonged to the Southern Pines Masonic Lodge # 454 where he became a member of the Oasis Shriners and Eastern Star Aberdeen Lodge # 259. James was also a member of the VFW. He retired from the U.S. Government.

He is survived by: his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Lou McKee, Pinehurst; NC;

Daughter, Debra Mae Jepson and husband George of Cameron, NC ; his grandchildren are: Ryan James Schulte, in active duty serving as an officer in Kandahar, Afghanistan; Christie Anne Schulte, Apex, NC; and Catorra Leigh Schulte, Alexandria, VA. He is also survived by his brother, Dale McKee, Marion Center and a brother-in-law, Boots Belardinelli, Marion Center.

A visitation will begin at 10 AM Friday morning, May 24^th at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer. Burial with military honors will be in the East Mahoning Cemetery, Purchase Line.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605, or to Shiloh Presbyterian Church, 210 S. Dickson St., Raeford, NC 28076.

Frederick Bowser Funeral Home in Homer City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Lucernemines site. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

E. Susan (Mardis) Ramsden Little, 71, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA.

The daughter of Ernest and Grace (Harkins) Mardis, she was born September 16, 1941 in Black Lick, PA.

Mrs. Little worked at Torrance State Hospital for 32 years, retiring in 2002 as a supervisor.

She was a member of Latrobe Chapter No. 221 Order of the Eastern Star, lifetime member of Chestnut Ridge VFW Post #444 Ladies Auxiliary, Derry and Blairsville Red Chapeau.

Surviving are her husband, Jay L. Little, Jr. whom she married October 2, 1993; a son, Robert D. Ramsden (Nancy) of New Alexandria; a daughter, Sally Harris (Paul) of Blairsville; a stepson, Jay A. Little (Mandy) of Albemarle, NC; three stepdaughters, Joyce Greece (Jim) of Clarksburg; Sheryl Wiley of Clarksburg and Gail Fresseni of Silverton, OR; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Sheffler (Dale) of Blairsville and Gladys Nunaz of Terrytown, LA and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clair and Clifford Mardis; a sister, Helen Smith and a grandson, Alex Fresseni.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Charles W. Williamson officiating.

Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Lewisville, PA.

Chestnut Ridge VFW Post #444 Ladies Auxiliary will have services in the funeral home on Wednesday at 2:30 P.M.

Latrobe Chapter No. 221 Order of the Easter Star will have services in the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:00 P.M.

MARTHA DEVINNY, 85

Martha L. (Sanford) DeVinny, 85 of Indiana, died Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. Born in Indiana on April 6, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Thomas White Sanford and Eliza Belle (McCully) Sanford. She was the widow of Clarence W. DeVinny who died May 19, 2002. They were married May 14, 1951 and had just celebrated their 51^st wedding anniversary prior to his death.

She had attended the Indiana Normal School and graduated from Indiana High School. Following high school she worked as a clerk at the former McCrory’s Department Store. Shortly after her marriage, she and her husband, Clarence, opened the DeVinny Jewelry Store in Homer City.

However the job she was most proud of was that of a mother and homemaker, caring for her daughter, Becky.

Martha enjoyed working in her flower garden and making projects at her crafting classes.

She was a retired member of the Civil Air Patrol in Indiana, which was something she had shared with her husband.

Martha was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Indiana where she had previously been active in many church activities and projects.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Titterington and her husband, Harve of Scottdale. She will also be missed by her brother-in-law, William Anderson of Indiana and by her two grand-dogs, Sami and Gretchen.

Martha was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Ruth Blonde, Alice Nicewonger, May Sanford, Howard Sanford and Helen Edmiston.

Friends will be received Tuesday, May 21 from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, of Indiana. A second visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 10 AM until 11 AM at the Christ Episcopal Church, 902 Philadelphia Street, Indiana. Her funeral service will begin at eleven o’clock following the visitation hour at the church. The Rev. William Geiger will officiate. Interment will be private and held at a later date at the Oakland Cemetery.

FRANK SPEEDY, 82

Frank Eugene Speedy, 82 of Clarksburg, PA passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013 in the Communities at Indian Haven, Indiana, PA.

The son of Irwin McKee and Mabel E. (Warner) Speedy, he was born October 29, 1930 in Conemaugh Twp., Indiana Co., PA.

Mr. Speedy was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church for 70 years where he was a ruling elder, trustee, Sunday school teacher, superintendent, had served as the church’s treasurer and was on the church cemetery board for many years.

He graduated from Blairsville High School in 1948 and from California University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

He began his teaching career in industrial arts at Elders Ridge High School and retired in 1990 with 30 years teaching at Apollo Ridge. He also ran the family beef cattle farm and was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Nancy M. (Teeter) Speedy whom he married August 29, 1958; three sons, Thomas E. Speedy of Shippensburg; Dale A. Speedy (Debbie) of Indiana and Matthew L. Speedy (Valerie) of Clarksburg and a daughter, Sue A. Lyle (Jim) of Mt. Lebanon; five grandchildren, Heather, Kayla, Amber, Bradley and Jacob; a sister, Florence Mihalyov of Rochester, NY and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond and Ralph Speedy and a sister, Martha Burnsworth.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Lewisville, where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday with Rev. Elizabeth Arter officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church or to the Communities at Indian Haven in memory of Frank.
