Homer-Center lost to Serra Catholic, 7-1, in the first round of the PIAA Class A playoffs on Monday, ending its season at 15-5.

Bishop McCort won the District 6 Class A championship game, beating Homer-Center, 5-4, in eight innings on Friday. The game was a completion of Thursday's suspended game in the sixth inning. Homer-Center gave up an unearned run in the eighth inning. The Wildcats left 11 runners on base and could not cash in on eight walks.

Last week, Homer-Center took awhile to get going, but only a short while, as the Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, then exploded for 12 runs in the third for a 14-0 5-inning mercy rule win over Ferndale in the D-6 semifinals.

The Wildcats opened the scoring when Garrett Sisak singled, stole second and third, and came home on a single by Craig Ciranni. Ciranni stole second and scored on Tom McConnnell’s base hit and it was 2-0 after two innings.

In the bottom of the third, Homer-Center sent 18 batters to the plate and had eight hits, including back-to-back triples by Sisak and Eric Cusimano. Cusimano added a double later in the inning. Twelve runners crossed the plate to make it 14-0, and Evan Bencic mowed down the Ferndale batters the rest of the way, giving up just two hits, no runs, and striking out three for the afternoon.

Multi-hit batters for Homer-Center included Ryan Bernatt, who was 3 for 4; Bencic, Sisak, Cusimano, and Ciranni each had two hits.

Tom McConnell led an 18-hit attack by the Wildcats with four hits. Matt Wilden and Garrett Sisak added three hits each. Tim Kinter pitched five innings for the win.

Tyler Claar took the loss for C-K, lasting only three innings. Claysburg-Kimmel committed eight errors.

The news was not so good earlier this week for other local District 6 teams. In Class AA, Marion Center bowed to Westmont Hill, 13-0, on Tuesday. Penns Manor lost to Portage, 7-4, in another Class A game.

Indiana lost to West Allegheny, 3-1, last Tuesday in the opening round of the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs. Indiana scored its only run in the seventh inning and left two runners on base. Indiana pitcher Jordan Britcher held West Allegheny to just three hits and no walks through six innings in a fine effort, but Indians left eight runners on base.
