WOMEN TRIED TO BILK DRIVER'S LICENSE CENTER
    Empoyees thwart license scam

    7/29/2010

State police credit employees at the driver’s license center at the Indiana Mall for thwarting a fraud attempt by two women, who now are the subject of arrest warrants for trying to switch places with each other to get a driver’s license.

The scheme played out last December 15th. Police say Mashaiel Adbullah Anifay and Laila Mohammed I. Banjar went to the center at around 10:30 AM seeking a driver’s license. Anifay took the driver’s portion of the test and passed, but Banjar tried to get the license as if she had taken the test. When the staff members became suspicious, the women fled.

Police credit examiners Jeremy Coble and Thomas Brocius, and supervisor Randall Coleman for their perception and vigilance in stopping the scheme. The PennDOT Office of Risk Management requested an investigation, and polcie have filed charges of forgery, tampering with public records, unsworn falsification, and violations concerning licenses.

The suspects are both described as white women. Anifay is 23 and has a Beacon Hill address in Pittsburgh; Banjar is 38 and her last known address is on Centre Avenue, also in Pittsburgh.
