An Indiana woman died yesterday in a car crash in Westmoreland County.
Police say 25-year-old Janessa Fleming was making a left turn at the intersection of Route 130 and Pleasant Unity-Mutual Road in Unity Township when she pulled in front of a pickup truck driven by Richard Bowers of Mount Pleasant, and the two collided. Fleming was pronounced dead at Excela Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg. Her passenger, 20-year-old Acacia Macey of Greensburg, was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital with unspecified injuries. Bowers was also hospitalized with unspecified injuries. The accident was reported at 6:30 PM.
There was another fatal accident in Westmoreland County, just a couple of hours before the Fleming accident. This one happened on Route 22, just past Gene & Boots Candies at the intersection of 22 and Scenic Drive. 39-year-old Amanda Cicarrelli of Greensburg died when she tried to make a left turn from the westbound lane, but drove into the path of an eastbound car driven by 25-year-old Brandon Thiem of Derry. After the collision, Thiem’s car burst into flames, but other drivers were able to extricate him and his passenger, Shaun Shantz of Pittsburgh. Both are in Pittsburgh hospitals, Schantz in serious condition at Allegheny General. No condition report is available on Thiem, who was transferred from Excela Latrobe to UPMC Presbyterian.
