The faculty union for Pennsylvania’s 14 state-owned universities voted in favor of a strike authorization this week. Roughly 86 percent of the union members participated in the vote. Of those 86 percent, 95 percent voted affirmatively to give union leaders the power to strike. The last authorization vote took place in 2007, but there has never been a strike in the State System’s three-decade history. The next round of negotiations will be in early December.
