In the wake of the school shooting last week in Connecticut, many are wondering if local school districts will consider arming security guards.
We took the question to local superintendents and each one we spoke to told us they are looking into the idea.
Every superintendent I talked to told me that their district is at least exploring the possibility of armed guards in schools. In fact, Blairsville-Saltsburg has even set up public meetings, where people can voice their concern or support. The first meeting is January 3rd from 6-7 p.m. at the Blairsville High School. The second is scheduled for 5:30-6:30 pm. January 16th at the Saltsburg Middle/High School. Meanwhile, many other Indiana County Districts are exploring the idea, including the Indiana Area School District. The Marion Center School Board will also discuss the possibility of armed guards at their January meeting.
Homer-Center Superintendent Dr. Charles Koren says their board will be looking at recommendations at their meetings coming up in the spring and like the other districts, they had considered the idea before the deadly Connecticut shooting.
