COUNTY CELEBRATES MLK

1/19/2013

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is coming up on Monday, and Indiana County has found several ways to celebrate the civil rights hero and kick off Black History Month.

Today the Memorial Civil Rights march will begin at 10:30 a.m. starting at the Indiana County Courthouse at 8th and Philadelphia Street. They will be marching to the Grace United Methodist Church and enjoy a memorial program followed by a fellowship luncheon noon. If you can’t march, you are welcome to be at Grace United at 11 a.m.

There is currently an exhibit at the IUP Stapleton Library titled Living the Dream and Black History: Historical and Contemporary Achievements. It can be viewed during regular library hours and will run until February 29.

The African American Cultural Center at IUP will also have an event on January 30. In conjunction with the Six O’clock Series, there will be daylong activities including keynote speaker Burell Brown, Esquire. Brown is an attorney and professor of Management and Labor Management and and chair of the Business and Economics Department at California University of Pennsylvania and served on several governor-appointed committees.
