HOMER-CENTER SECRETARY CHARGED WITH THEFT

2/22/2013

A secretary at the Homer-Center High School is facing charges after police say she failed to deposit revenue from athletic events.  Police say they were called to the Homer-Center High School on December 18th, after the school district was audited by McCory and McCory.

During the audit, police say it was determined that the Athletic Fund, which contained game receipts, was missing entirely between the period of July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012.  That included revenue for all 2011 football, boys and girls basketball, and volleyball home games, along with the 2012 boys and girls basketball and volleyball home games.

Once the money and game receipts could not be located, the school district launched an internal investigation.  Police say they determined that Susan Dixson, who was the secretary in the Athletic and Principals office, failed to deposit the money, which totaled approximately $15,000.

Dixson was interviewed by police last Friday, where they say she admitted to first taking the money during the football season to pay an electric bill.  She allegedly told police she continued to take the money every couple weeks to pay bills, a few hundred dollars at a time to pay food, gas, grocery and utility bills.

She denied taking the entire amount of money listed by police.  Homer-Center Superintendent Dr. Charles Koren declined comment on the situation, saying it was part of an ongoing personnel situation.  He added that the district would always do what is best for its students, taxpayers and parents.  A preliminary hearing is scheduled in this case for 8:50 a.m. Monday.
