Contract heads to SSHE Board of Governors for March 20 vote

The faculty union for the State-Owned universities, like IUP, gave their overwhelming support to a four-year contract proposal.

Published reports say that 95 percent of the faculty who voted supported the ratification of the proposal, which replaces the pact that expired in late June of 2011.  The contract will cover over 5000 faculty members, and provides salary increases ranging from 11.5 percent to 19 percent.  The agreement also has some health care benefit changes, alters the pay for distance education courses, and a provision that addresses increasing class sizes, something that faculty members had concerns over.  The contract also includes a $30,000 retirement incentive for those who retire by the end of May.

State System of Higher Education officials say that they are happy with the outcome of APSCUF’s vote.  The agreement now goes to State System board for approval during a meeting on March 20th
