MAN WILL STAND TRIAL FOR HIDING TEENAGE GIRL
Kittanning man accused of harboring girl at Shelocta apartment

5/2/2013

A Kittanning man yesterday waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will stand trial in Armstrong County on charges that he harbored a Ford City teenage girl at an apartment in Indiana County.

41-year-old Gregory Alan Shaffer is accused of having himself and the 15-year-old girl driven to the former Shelocta Motel last week after picking her up in Bethel Township, near Ford City.  Authorities began searching for the girl when she didn’t show up for school.

Shaffer twice told police that he didn’t know where the girl was, but a woman tipped off authorities about his second residence in Indiana County, and the man who had driven Shaffer there told them about the Shelocta location.  When the cops showed up, Shaffer answered the door, and the girl tried to hide in a bathroom.

Shaffer remains in the Armstrong County Jail with bond set at $20,000.  He’s charged with concealing the whereabouts of a child, interference with the custody of a child, and corruption of a minor.
