Memorial Day will be observed across the area today, beginning with the traditional traveling services in the northern section of the Indiana County.
American Legion Post 582 will lead services starting at 9 AM at Pearce Cemetery in Rossiter, then at 9:15 at Devers Cemetery, at 9:30 at Fairview Cemetery, at 9:45 at Pine Grove Cemetery, at 10:10 at Pine Cemetery, at 10:15 at Union Cemetery, and at 10:30 at Rossiter Catholic Cemetery, concluding with a services at around 11 AM at Rossiter Memorial Park.
In Indiana, the Memorial Day service will be at 10:30 AM at Memorial Park, conducted by the American Legion Post 141. Mayor George Hood will be master of ceremonies.
Activities in Blairsville include the Dr. John Yelenic Memorial Day 5k Run at 8 AM. The parade in Blairsville marches off at 10:30 from the Diamond on West Market Street, through town to the Blairsville Cemetery. The color guard of the 656th Signal Company, 56thStryker Brigade, Pennsylvania National Guard will lead the procession. At about 11:15 AM, a service will be conducted at the cemetery with VFW Post #5821 commander and Air Force veteran Thomas Patz offering the address.
The Iselin Union Cemetery Association will present their Memorial Day service at 11 AM at the cemetery.
The parade and service in Plumville is at 11, followed by a parade and service in Marion Centerat 1. Vietnam War Army vet Ron Stewart will offer remarks at Marion Center and the Lions Club will present the honor veteran designation to Vietnam War Marine vet George Kerstetter.
