The Penn Hills man charged with shooting to death a West Wheatfield Township man last December will be tried this December.
21-year-old Ronell Moses Jr. is accused of shooting Michael Volk at a trailer in Torrance, as Volk was allegedly trying to rob Moses of drugs and money. Moses was originally to be tried next week on charges of criminal homicide, first degree murder, kidnapping, and terroristic threats, but yesterday Westmoreland County Judge Rita Hathaway pushed the case back to December 9th.
The Moses trial is complicated by the cases against three others, Jesus Santiago, Tiffany Blattenberger, and Danielle Clawson. Those three are accused of plotting along with Volk to rob Moses, and prosecutors say that since their actions led directly to Volk’s death, they all are charged with homicide as well. They also are charged with second degree murder, robbery, and two counts each of conspiracy.
In June, the cases against Santiago, Blattenberger, and Clawson were consolidated so that they will face trial together, but not as co-defendants with Moses. The kidnapping and terroristic threats charges against Moses are for holding the other defendants hostage at gunpoint until a ride arrived to take him away from the crime scene.
