IUP Homecoming weekend is here, and preparations are underway by Indiana Borough officials. That includes Public Works Director Dave Fairman, who says he will begin posting “No Parking” signs late this afternoon in advance of tomorrow’s homecoming parade. Fairman will post Church Street from 6th to 9th and South 6th from Philadelphia Street to Church Street this evening. Philadelphia Street and the detour routes (Water Street and School Street) will be posted Saturday morning at 6 AM.
Traffic will be cut off on Philadelphia Street between 11th and 13th Streets on Saturday morning so it can serve as the parade staging area.
Fairman says one of the challenges this year is that both of the detour routes, Water Street and the 500 block of School Street, are under construction. There is no asphalt on School Street, so the ride will be a bit bumpy. On Water Street, the westbound lane is blocked by construction between 7th and 8th Streets, but Fairman says a special accomodation will be made for this weekend. The contract with Palo Construction requires them to move the trailer and all construction materials out and open both lanes of Water Street for the weekend.
One other reminder about Philadelphia Street: Since it is already posted “No Parking” from 2 AM to 6 AM, the street should be cleared of all vehicles in the overnight, so towing will start very early and without warning.
