The State House has approved the bill that would give bars and taverns permission to run small games of chance like daily drawings and pull-tab games in their establishments.
The vote, which was 102-96 means that the gaming expansion bill now heads to the Senate, where it is expected to be approved. Under the law, bars would be allowed to have daily drawings, tavern raffles and pull tab games played at their establishment. The state would take 60% of the gambling profits, with bar owners getting 35% and local municipalities getting the remaining 5%.
The bill had been a point of contention with American Legion and VFW posts, saying that it might take away a lot of money from them, and may force several smaller posts to close.
Prize limits would be $2000 for a single game and $35,000 over seven days.
