Today is the first of eight weekend-long closures on East Pike Road as a part of a major bridge replacement project.
The project concerns bridges that take route 119 over East Pike road in White township. The two bridges that are over 119 will be replaced with a single-span beam bridges. The bridges that are being replaced were originally built in 1970.
The road closures affect the areas under the bridges. The detour will be Stormer Road to Geesey Road, to Airport Road to Route 286 and back to Philadelphia Street.
There are already traffic restrictions in place on Route 119 North and South on the split highway, and lanes have been shifted to facilitate new traffic patterns. There’s also a 14-foot width restriction in place.
The Bridges will be reopened to traffic in October and work is expected to finish by next spring.
