Man held up Cherry Tree bank last summer

Among the many defendants to be sentenced today in Indiana County Court…

  • 51-year-old Thomas Leon Davis of Cherry Tree, who pleaded guilty in January to robbing the First Commonwealth Bank branch in Cherry Tree last July.  Police used surveillance footage from the bank and from cameras at the Cherry Tree fire company to help identify Davis and watch the crime unfold.  Police also found the camouflage jacket and a bandana he wore during the robbery.  They were hidden in a wooded area.

  • 31-year-old James Ankney of Lower Twolick Drive in White Township will be sentenced for a guilty plea to reduced charges for an incident last June that began at the Two Lick Reservoir and ended up at his nearby home.  State police were called after Ankney argued with a woman at the boat launch at the lake and witnesses feared for her safety.  Troopers found him and the woman at his home.  She was unharmed, but Ankney slapped and shoved one trooper and punched another trooper in the face as they attempted to arrest him on suspicion of driving under the influence. The original charges included aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and related offenses.
