A man who crashed his car Monday in Cherryhill Township, was arrested Tuesday at the state police barracks in Indiana after he was found to be under the influence while operating a vehicle and in possession of stolen jewelry.
State police say that 36-year-old Jody Bennett of Mentcle, Pennsylvania was traveling northbound on Route 403 just after 7 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a left turn and went off the roadway and hit into a mailbox and then into a utility pole. He suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to the Indiana Regional Medical Center by ambulance.
The next night, Bennett drove to the state police barracks in Indiana to pick up a friend who had just been arrested for driving under the influence. Troopers say Bennett, himself, was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance or substances. Police also found numerous pills and several pieces of jewelry in his pockets.
Bennett was arrested and charged with DUI and possession of drugs and was taken to the Indiana County Jail to await arraignment.
State police do not know who the jewelry belongs to, but they are urging anyone who is missing jewelry to contact them at 724-357-1960 so the items may be identified and a returned to the owner.
