The widow of David McGinnis has struck a plea bargain that will allow her to avoid going to jail on insurance fraud charges. Charges against McGinnis’ brother and sister are still awaiting court action.
39-year-old Denise McGinnis of Fairfield Township (outside of Bolivar), has been admitted to the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) program, and if she successfully completes the program her record will be expunged.
Kenneth McGinnis waived his preliminary hearing on charges related to the case and a hearing for Wendy McGinnis of Homer City has not yet been scheduled.
David and Denise McGinnis were accused of reporting his “monster truck” stolen from the Galleria Mall outside Johnstown in 2008. They collected $25,000 in insurance money, but the truck was later discovered in Wendy McGinnis’ garage. When police went to the McGinnis home in March, they arrested Denise but David escaped, eluding authorities for several months and burning down a neighbor’s home for revenge. He was captured in May in South Carolina but committed suicide in the Westmoreland County Prison last month.
