Trial began Monday for a Cambria County man who is being charged with swindling more than $650,000 from an elderly woman in Ebensburg.
The 94-year-old woman says she trusted 56-year-old handyman Frank Solensky Jr. like a son, and wrote him personal checks because she was told it would get him a contractor’s discount for supplies.
But Cambria County prosecutors say Solensky did it so he that could trick the woman out of more than $650,000 from 2000 to 2008.
Police say Mr. Solensky charged the victim $950 for driveway salt and sold her seven garage-door openers for $2,500 each, among other alleged rip-offs.
The victim testified from her wheelchair yesterday and said she liked Mr. Solensky so much, that she even listed him in her prepared obituary. She has since changed that.
Mr. Solensky pleaded guilty in March, but withdrew his plea and began standing trial Monday.
Testimony continued today.
