The prime suspect in the beating death of an elderly Northern Cambria man has not been charged with homicide – yet – but 40-year-old Sherman Holes of Cherry Tree remains in the Clearfield County Jail. Holes was taken into custody in the Newburg area on Monday and yesterday was arraigned on two bench warrants and a probation violation via video conferencing from the jail. District Judge James Hawkins set bond at $35,000.
Even should he post that bond, he has at least another court appearance before he could get out of jail, and Cambria County prosecutors hope to have their investigation into the death of Arthur Henry completed by then so they can file homicide charges against Holes. He is suspected of beating Henry up so badly on June 30th that the 79-year-old victim died three days later from head injuries.
Holes eluded police for three weeks after they showed up to arrest him on July 10th. His girlfriend, Brenda Romagna, faces charges of hindering apprehension and drug possession in Clearfield County, and was jailed here in Indiana County on drug charges over the weekend.
