FRANKENSTORM CREEPS IN TODAY

10/28/2012

Everyone has their eyes on the coming winter storm today.

The National Weather Service says the storm, which features an unprecedented merging of a winter storm coming out of Canada and the remnants of Hurricane Sandy moving up the East Coast, will begin to have an impact today, with the most serious weather hitting the region starting tomorrow.  Wind gusts will be in the 50 to 60 mile-per-hour range at times, possibly causing extended periods of power outages, and very heavy rains will make flooding possible and driving hazardous.

The Red Cross of Western Pennsylvania is urging Indiana County residents to prepare for the storm. Their advice is to have an emergency kit, know your evacuation plan, and to stay informed. There is also a free Red Cross Hurricane app for mobile phones. The app provides real-time hurricane safety information such as weather alerts and where Red Cross shelters are located.

We’ll be monitoring utilities, flooding and emergency response over the next several days.
