It looks like the biggest threat from Hurricane Sandy in our region could be flooding sparked by heavy rain and power outages from strong winds. While people across the region get ready for the big storm, the American Red Cross is doing the same. The organization is moving volunteers into areas across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
They say local volunteers are ready to deploy to any areas in need of assistance. The Red Cross is currently looking at areas for potential shelters. Several shelter locations have already been announced across Pennsylvania, but so far, no shelter locations have been announced in our region. The area’s power utility companies are also getting ready.
Penelec crews are ready to address outages as they happen and officials remind customers to call 1-888-LIGHTSS to report any outages.
REA customers can report outages by calling either 724-463-7273 or 1-800-332-7273. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest closures and any flooding or power outages from this storm.
