PennDOT and police across Pennsylvania are teaming up for “Operation Safe Holiday,” which is an initiative that includes seat belt, aggressive driving and impaired driving enforcement over the holiday season.
The operation kicked off on Monday with a Click It or Ticket seat belt campaign across the state. State police will also be using sobriety checkpoints, roving patrols and regular traffic safety patrols to crack down on drivers who are speeding, driving aggressively or driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
The holiday season continues to be a dangerous time of the year on state roadways. Officials say there were 4,200 accidents and 49 fatalities last year during the Thanksgiving travel period.
