A 2-month-old Vandergrift girl has died from her injuries that police say she suffered when her father shook her to stop her crying. State police have charged 30-year-old Matthew Milisits of Vandergrift with aggravated and simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of children, related to the death of Sophia Ludwiczak.
Police say Milsits was home with the child early last Thursday. They say he admitted to accidentally striking her head against a bathroom door and violently shaking her when she cried.
When the 3-hour visit was over, Milisits took the child to her mother in North Apollo. It is there that police say little Sophia stopped breathing. The baby was flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh where a doctor found four unexplained bruises on her forehead. She was removed from life support Monday evening.
The state police and prosecutors will decide over the next several days whether further charges will be filed against Milisits.
