HOMER-CENTER SECRETARY TO STAND TRIAL ON THEFT CHARGES

2/25/2013

A secretary at the Homer-Center High School will face trial on theft charges after waiving a preliminary hearing on Monday.

State Police say they were called to the Homer-Center High School on December 18th, after the school district an audit by McCory and McCory.  During the audit, police say it was determined that the Athletic Fund was missing entirely between the period of July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012.  That included game revenue for all 2011 football, boys and girls basketball, and volleyball home games, along with the 2012 boys and girls basketball and volleyball home games.

Once the money and game receipts could not be located, the school district launched an internal investigation.  Police say they determined that Susan Dixson, who was the secretary in the Athletic and Principals office, failed to deposit the money, which totaled approximately $15,000.  Dixson was interviewed by police earlier this month and allegedly told police she took the money every couple weeks a few hundred dollars at a time to pay food, gas, grocery and utility bills.  She denied taking the entire amount of money listed by police.

Homer-Center Superintendent Dr. Charles Koren declined comment on the situation, saying it was part of an ongoing personnel situation.  He added that the district would always do what is best for its students, taxpayers and parents.
