Saltsburg man to stand trial for triple murder

The Kevin Murphy murder trial is scheduled to begin April 8th in Westmoreland County Court.  Today is the deadline set by Judge Al Bell for attorneys to file the questions that they will ask of prospective jurors and any other motions for court consideration.

Murphy, who is from Saltsburg, is accused of gunning down his mother, sister, and aunt at the family’s glass business across the river from Indiana County in Loyalhanna Township.  Murphy was arrested on April 23rd, 2010, the one-year anniversary of the killings.

Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck is seeking the death penalty against Murphy, who he says killed the women because they disapproved of his relationship with a married woman. Investigators said the woman urged Murphy to “knock off” the victims.  She has not been charged in the case.

Judge Bell says that he will meet with the attorneys “shortly after” today’s deadline to decide on any motions and approve the questions to be asked of the jury pool.
