It’s a day of celebration and challenge at IUP as university President Michael Driscoll welcomes students to campus for the start of the academic year. Driscoll and other key members of the IUP community will kick off the fall semester at a 9 AM event at Fisher Auditorium.
Afterward, it’s just a short trip to the new Crimson Café dining facility for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and then to the Oak Grove for the final Picnic in the Grove of the summer, which starts at 11 AM. The public is invited to all of the festivities.
Freshmen living in the Northern Suites, Ruddock, Wallwork, and Stephenson halls move in today, and tomorrow freshman move-in continues at those residence halls and at Elkin Hall, Maple East and the Suites on Pratt. The rest of the student body living on campus arrive on Sunday.
Also Sunday, freshman convocation will be held at 5 PM at Fisher Auditorium, with Dr. Victor Garcia assuming the role of IUP Distinguished University Professor and offering keynote remarks.
With so much activity around the campus, motorists are advised to be extra cautious this weekend.
