John "Dick" Buterbaugh, Sr., 77, of Indiana, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
A son of the late James E. and Anna Ruth Morrow, he was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Marion Center.
Mr. Buterbaugh was a graduate of Marion Center High School. He was an active member throughout his life of the Indiana Fire Association, Indiana B.P.O.E. #931, Altoona Jaffa Shrine, Indiana Lodge #313 F. & A.M., and Indiana County League basketball and softball league. Following his retirement from Penelec, Dick spent his time traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time camping on the Allegheny River with family and friends.
He is survived by three sons: John D. "Dickie" Buterbaugh and wife Wendy, of Bellefonte; Jeffrey D. Buterbaugh and wife Ellen, and James D. Buterbaugh and wife Heather, all of Indiana; two brothers: Robert Buterbaugh and wife Goldie, of Freeport; and Donald Buterbaugh and wife Anna, of Lower Burrell. He leaves behind three grandchildren: John T. Buterbaugh and wife Courtney, Matthew D. Buterbaugh and Derek C. Buterbaugh; great-grandson, Braden T. Buterbaugh, and his special friend, Carol Clawson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Luella Hillberry Buterbaugh, on April 15, 2008.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., Indiana, where a Masonic service will be held at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., with Pastor Darla Revennaugh officiating. Interment will be in New Life Lutheran Cemetery.
