DORIS OAKES, 83

Doris J. (Woffenden) Oakes, 83, of Indiana, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at Communities at Indian Haven Nursing Home.

 

She was born January 16, 1929, in Clymer, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Walter K. and H. Lucille Woffenden.

 

Doris grew up in Clymer, PA and married  Carl P. “Coke” Oakes on January 6, 1950.  They eventually settled in Indiana, PA, with their three children.  Prior to her retirement, Doris worked in the offices of Dr. Dills, Sr. and Dr. Takach for many years.  She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and traveling to the Carolinas with her beloved husband Cokie.  She was a member of the Clymer Presbyterian Church.

 

In addition to her husband of almost 63 years, Doris is survived by her daughters, Bridget Nagurney and husband John of Greensburg, PA, Margaret “Peggy” Happel and husband Tom of South Paris, Maine; her son William “Bill” and wife Tamara of Oak Harbor, Washington; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Schelfe and husband Clyde and Phyllis Clement; brother-in-law, Robert Oakes and wife Eleanor.

 

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her brother, E. Leroy “Red” Woffenden; three brothers-in-law, William, J. Ward and Edward Oakes; and one sister-in-law, Mary Jane Roschen.

 

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.  The Bence-Mihalcik Funeral Home in Indiana is handling private arrangements.

 

Her children would like to thank the staff of the Communities at Indian Haven and VNA/Family Hospice of Indiana for the excellent care and attention they provided our mother throughout her illness.  A special thanks to her personal caregiver, Bonnie, whose special care and kindness will never be forgotten.
