GILBERT PIPER, 91
SHOEMAKER FUNERAL HOME OF BLAIRSVILLE

          Gilbert Isaiah Piper, 91, of Indiana, PA formerly of Blairsville passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Beacon Ridge, Indiana, PA.

          The son of Leroy L. and Fredericka J. (Mikesell) Piper, he was born June 22, 1921 in Cook Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA.

          Mr. Piper was a member of the Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville, where he was a Sunday school teacher and served on the Congregation Council and a member of Gideon International.

          He was a self-employed farmer.

          Surviving are his daughter, Myra Fozard (Gene) of Aliquippa; a daughter-in-law, LaJean Piper of Blairsville; four stepdaughters, Phyllis Hood (Barry) of Latrobe; Charlotte Zofchak (John) of Blairsville; Beverly Johnston (Keith) of Ligonier and Nancy Shultz (Thomas) of Pleasant Unity; 13 grandchildren, Renee, Scott, Roben, Hallie, Marsha, Michele, Phillip, Gilbert, Sherry, Stacy, Tom, Tara and Michele; 20 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

          He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret Irene (Stahl) Piper in 1981; his second wife, Ethel M. (Stahl) Shaulis Piper in 1998; an infant daughter, Jeanine; a son, Kenneth in 2003; five brothers, Garvin, Leonard, Linley, Clair and Donald and three sisters, Dorothy Gaskill, Thelma McDowell and Marie Liebel.

          The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville, with Rev. Beverly J. Banyay officiating.

          Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery, Cook Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA.

          Memorial contributions may be made to the Hebron Lutheran Church, 125 N. Liberty St., Blairsville, PA  15717.

          The family would like to thank the staff at Beacon Ridge for the care they gave to Gilbert while he was a resident there.
