George Lanich, 91, of Indiana, formerly of Clune, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Bethany Place in Indiana.

A son of the late Marko and Ruby Simpson Lanich, he was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Clune.

Mr. Lanich retired from Lanich Bus Lines, where he was an owner and partner and also drove motor coach. George was a school bus driver for 30 years. It has been said that he was watchful and thoughtful and vigilant of the responsibility he had, he took pride in the fact that he arrived every school day morning to pick up his first child exactly at 8 o’ clock by his watch. That defined him, individualized him, it was the measure of his sense of purpose and responsibility, the thing he was most proud of and the fact he most wanted people to know about him. He was a member of the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Johnstown. George loved going to the Pittsburgh Pirate baseball games and watching the Pirates and Steelers football on television.

He is survived by his sister, Charlotte Midock, of Indiana; and numerous special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Samuel and Paul Lanich; six sisters: Kathryn Rostis, Ann Zamberlan, Stassie Glascock, Dorothy Duckett, Mary Lanich and Sophie Vitkoski.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday with Fr. George Hnatko officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to your favorite charity.
