Ethel L. Capenos Beatty, 85, of Indiana, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014, at the Communities at Indian Haven.


A daughter of the late George and Vella Barnes Capenos, she was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Freedom.


Mrs. Beatty was retired from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  She was a member of AARP, AFSCME and the First Christian Church, where she participated in the Wednesday Morning Prayer Group.  Mrs. Beatty enjoyed quilting and doing word search puzzles.


She is survived by four children: Joy Lee Scott and husband Eugene, of Commodore; Deborah Jean Butler and husband Michael, of Indiana; Walter Lee Beatty, Jr. and wife Lillian, of Erie; Michele Ann Beatty Cousins, of Indiana; two step children: Robert Beatty and Sharon Oaks; a brother, Blaine Capenos, of Baden; two sisters: Augusta Neiman, of Baden; Helen Pedaline, of Johnstown; five grandchildren: Jennifer Cornelius and husband Ryan, Matthew Scott, Megan Armstrong, Emily Butler, Molly Butler; three great grandchildren: Noah Butler, Zoiee Cornelius, Alyssa Cornelius; and numerous nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Beatty, Sr.; a stepdaughter, Donna Metcalfe; and a sister, Marie Gutch.


Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., Indiana, where a funeral service will be held at 11 .m. Friday with Pastor Jerry Hoch officiating.  Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
