J. Robert “Bob” Atkinson, 86, ofIndiana, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014, atIndianaRegionalMedicalCenter.

 

A son of the late Clair F. and Eleanor Grace Whitsell Atkinson, he was born July 9, 1928, in Saltsburg.

 

Mr. Atkinson was a graduate ofSaltsburgHigh School.  He earned an engineering degree from Williamsport Technical Institute.  Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He retired from the Purchasing Department at FMC after 38 and a half years of service.  Bob was a member of Graystone Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder.  He served on the Saltsburg Borough Council and was a life member of the V.F.W.  Bob enjoyed woodcarving, bird watching, hunting, fishing, golfing, tinkering and fixing things and his dog, Taffi.

 

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pauline M. Woodward Atkinson, of Indiana; a daughter, Lori Porter and husband Jack, of Pittsburgh; a son-in-law, Thomas Moreau, of Indiana; five grandchildren: Erin Porter, Ganelle Porter, Natalie Porter, Jason Moreau, Justin Moreau and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nanci Lee Moreau; a brother, William Atkinson and a sister, Eleanor Elizabeth Woodward.

 

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc.  A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Graystone Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Richard E. Hurley and The Rev. William D. Milligan officiating.
