WINTER PARK, FL – The Crimson Hawks were on the other end of a comeback win as the 12th-ranked IUP women's basketball team lost to 23rd-ranked Rollins at its Holiday Classic on Sunday evening.

The game was the final one for the Crimson Hawks at the weekend tournament in Florida, splitting their two games. With its loss to the Tars and a come-from-behind win over Cedarville on Saturday, IUP heads into 2013 with a 9-2 overall record.

It was a back-and-forth first seven minutes as both teams exchanged the lead five times as IUP held a 13-9 lead at the 13:24 mark. Less than two minutes later the Crimson Hawks took a six point lead when Lindsay Stamp (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep) knocked down a three-pointer,
making it a 16-10 game with 12:02 remaining.

The Tars (8-2) then used a 6-1 run to close within a point at 17-16 before a traditional three-point play from Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) put IUP back up on top by four points with
9:17 on the clock. With the help of a three by Marina Wareham (New Wilmington/Kennedy Catholic) and a pair of layups by Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson), IUP went on top by eight with 3:38 to go before the break.

Rollins finished the half by scoring five straight points as the Crimson Hawks took a 28-25 lead into the locker room.

The Crimson Hawks held onto the lead through more than half of the second stanza, building a 38-32 advantage after a layup by Stoner at the 13:23 mark. Rollins then began its comeback, going on a 12-2 run to take a 42-40 lead after a pair of free throws from Sarah Blackburn
with 8:30 remaining.

IUP rebounded, getting a layup and one from Amy Fairman (Creekside/Marion Center) followed by a three-pointer by Marita Mathe (Indiana/Indiana) to give the Crimson Hawks a 46-42 lead with 6:16 left on the clock. Later another three by Wareham made it a 49-44 game but six straight points from Rollins put the Tars up by one with 2:20 remaining.

With Rollins ahead 52-51, the Tars extended their lead to three with a layup from Ashley Jones with 22 seconds left. Mathe was sent to the line on IUP's next possession, connecting on one to make it a two-point game with seven seconds remaining. The Crimson Hawks made a quick foul, but the Tars Ashley Losch converted both free throws, sealing the four-point win.

Losch was one of four Rollins players in double-figures with 10 points. Sarah Taylor had a team-high 12 points while Jones had 11 and Emmalee Schill added 10.

Stoner came off the bench to finish with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting in 25 minutes. She also had five rebounds and went 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Fairman scored 11 points and Wareham had nine points, converting 3-of-4 three-point attempts. Both players added three assists apiece. Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

IUP lost the turnover battle 15-to-8 while the Tars also had more rebounds, 42-to-35. The Crimson Hawks shot 37.5 percent from the floor (18-of-48), 33.3 percent from three-point range (7-of-21) and 56.3 percent from the foul line (9-of-16).
