For the second game in a row, the Pirates had closer Jason Grilli on the mound with a one-run lead in the ninth inning.  For the second game in a row, Grilli blew the save by giving up a home run to Ryan Braun. Milwaukee went on to a 14-inning 3-2 win over the Bucs, who dropped three out of four to the Brewers.  Jeanmar Gomez gave up the game-winning home run in the 14th.  Neil Walker homered in the 4th for the Pirates and the 1-0 lead heald up until the 8th, when starter Gerrit Cole gave up a home run.  The 1-1 tie was broken on an infield single in the bottom of the 8th on an infield single by Jose Tabata, but Braun, who hit a game-wining 9th inning home run off Grilli on Saturday, sent it to extra innings with his Sunday shot.

The two teams brawled in the third inning after the Brewers’ Carlo Gomez exchanged words with Pirate’s pitcher Gerrit Cole.  The Bucs’ Travis Snyder was ejected along with Gomez andMilwaukeebench coach Jerry Narron.

The Pirates open a four-game series against the Reds tonight at PNCPark, with Francisco Liriano looking for his first win against Cincinnati’s Mike Leake, who struck out eight Pittsburgh batters in a game last week.  Airtime is 6:40 on Newstalk 1160 WCCS.
