The Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Penguins 5-2 in the Pens' first home game of the season. The largest crowd in Consol Energy Center history, 18.641, turned out for the game, but Pittsburgh fell behind for good in the second quarter.
Evgeni Malkin scored a power play goal, his first tally of the season, in the first period, and Sidney Crosby added his first of the year to tie the game briefly in the second. The first period highlight was a scrap between heavyweights Colton Orr of the Maple Leafs and Penguins defenseman Deryk Engelland.
The Penguins play at Winnipeg Friday night.
