IUP RANKED 10TH IN PRESEASON COACHES POLL
Williams still awaiting NCAA eligibility decision

8/20/2013

Preseason football polls can vary wildly, and there’s another indication of that with yesterday’s release of the American Football Coaches Association Division Two Coaches Top 25 preseason Poll.  IUP is one of three PSC teams ranked in the poll, at number ten, but Shippensburg ranks number 7.  Bloomsburg comes in at number 18. IUP beat Shippensburg 41-6 in last year’s PSAC championship game.

Defending national champion ValdostaState is ranked number one, followed by Minnesota State-Mankato , West Texas A&M, and NorthwestMissouriStateWinston-Salem, which knocked IUP out of the playoffs last year, is ranked 5th

Sixteen starters return for IUP, including three All-Americans: guard Nick Carnicella, linebacker Carl Fleming, and kicker Brett Ullman, along with five others who were All-PSAC West.

IUP is ranked 7th by Lindy’s Football Annual and 22nd by The Sporting News.

By the way, IUP running back De’Antwan Williams still has not heard from the NCAA on whether or not he will be granted another year of eligibility.  He rushed for more than 1,300 yards last year.  He can still practice with the team as it awaits word from the NCAA on his petition for another year.

The Crimson Hawks open the season on Saturday, September 7 at Southern Connecticut State.
