BUCS FALL TO DIAMONDBACKS

7/4/2014

The Pirates still have not swept a series from any opponents this year, last night falling to the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-2. David Peralta drove in four runs including two during a seven-run ninth inning as the Diamondbacks pulled away late.  Vance Worley allowed three runs in seven frames to fall to 2-and-1 with the loss. Worley was perfect through 4 innings and didn’t allow a hit until the 6th.

The Pirates open a three-game series with the Phillies tonight at PNC Park.  Gerrit Cole (6-4 with a 4.02 ERA) gets his second start since returning from the disabled list against the Phils’ Roberto Hernandez (3-7 with a 4.26 ERA.)

Pitcher Francisco Liriano will make a rehab start for Indianapolis on Monday.  He’s been on the disabled list since June 11th with a strained left oblique.

Indianapolis pitchers Andy Oliver and Casey Sadler, first baseman Matt Hague and outfielder Chris Dickerson were named to the International League all-star team. The game against the Pacific Coast League all-stars will be played July 16 in Durham, North Carolina.
